Zurich

I just got back from a pretty knackering work trip to Switzerland. I wish i had taken my Nikon with me as this beautiful setting appeared to me inside Zurich International airport. Luckily my Iphone had just enough battery to let me capture this image. Stunning if i do say so myself.

For the drummers out there.

After much deliberation I settled on Instanbul cymbals. Loud, crisp, incredibly shiny and pretty darn expensive. Cant wait to play them properly. The shop were not thrilled at me smashing the heck out of them so i had to restrain myself some what.

I was torn between a few different brands but after finding out my favourite drummer at present Dave Turncrantz plays the exact same set, I was sold. Incediently, if you havent already, check out Russian Circles. A truly awesome inspiring band.

Now where do i start??

It’s fair to say I watch a lot of TV shows, mainly American series if I am honest. I am frequently asked which ones I recommend so I thought I would pass on my views. It’s not that I am knocking people that just watch ones on normal TV, as I am sure Sherlock is very good but I urge you to branch out and get involved with the below. Just watching what’s on BBC or ITV is the equivalent to just listening to bands played out on Radio 1 in my eyes. So there, I said it!

Not gonna give you lowdown on shows like “The Wire” or The Sopranos” as quite frankly, if you haven’t watched these yet, you probably won’t bother.

In no particular order

Pushing Daises
Touted as a forensic fairy tale. Its super colorful and fun to watch. It’s also got Anna Friel in it so it’s pretty easy on the eye. Basically it’s about a guy with the ability to bring dead things back to life with his touch. What’s not to love.

Prison Break
such an awesome show! Well the first season is anyway! Kinda tails off after season 1 but worth seeing through to the end. Bloke goes to prison, Blokes brother tattoos the map of the prison onto his body. Gets arrested to go to prison to break said brother out. Fun times!

America Horror Story
Amityville horror in TV form. Really enjoyed the first season. Pretty darn scary too!

Dexter
One of my absolute faves! Dexter is a blood spatter analyst working for the Miami PD, but moonlights as a serial killer that just kills bad guys. Realy really awesome stuff! The end of season cliff-hangers are probably the best of any show going. Season 6 and going strong!

Parks & Recreation
Really funny “the office” style mocumentary set in a parks and recreation government department in the fictional town of Pawnee. Great cast and super easy watching. Big fan!

Friday Night Lights
Super underrated 5 season run. FNL is up there with the best. It focuses on a fictional town in west Texas that is fixated with a high school football team. I can’t recommend this highly enough! Explosions In The Sky also do the soundtrack for added awesomeness, Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t lose!!

Breaking Bad
4 seasons and counting and just getting better! Malcolm in the middles dad gets terminal cancer and becomes a crystal meth dealer to help support his family after he has gone. won so many awards and deservedly so!

Hell on Wheels
Just finished the first season of this show. Set in the wild west, real cowboys and Indians stuff. Been picked up for a second season so worth getting involved. It’s got Common in it too!

New Girl
Jury is out on this one but I do love a bit of Zooey. Its pretty funny and easy watching to be fair.

Modern Family
Somehow sky1 picked this up which may have put some people off. Its another mocumentary style show but probably funnier than Parks & Rec. Really easy watching and worth getting into.

30 Rock
Last few seasons have been a bit below par but I recommend starting from the beginning. Its created by Tina Fey and is loosely based on Fey's experiences as head writer for Saturday Night Live. Get involved. Alec Baldwin is amazing in this!

Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip
Such a great show produced by Aaron Sorkin starring Matthew Perry. Sadly cancelled after one season as in his words Americans didn’t get it. It’s basically a more serious 30 Rock. I adored this show and sad its gone :-(

Fringe
CSI meets XFiles. (if CSI was actually any good that is) Great show, great cliff hangers. JJ Abrams at his best.

Band of Brothers
Saving Private Ryan in TV format. If you loved the movie you will freaking love this!

The Pacific
Same as above but instead of being set in Europe, it focuses on what happened in the Pacific in WWII. Another cracker!

Generation Kill
6 part HBO mini-series. Set during the first 6 days of the Iraq war. Harsh stuff! Great watch!

Mr Sunshine
Cancelled after the first season again! Matt Perry has not been a lucky guy since Friends! Pretty funny show centred around a hockey rink/concert venue.

True BloodNot as Twilighty as one would think. Yes it’s about vampires but the first few seasons are especially good. Does tail off after the second season though. Lots of blood and boobs! It pretty funny in places too.

Weeds
One of my faves, absolutely hilarious in places. suburban housewife becomes a small time weed dealer. Becomes a big time weed dealer as the seasons progress. Simple really.

Mad Men
Every guy wishes they we’re as cool as Don Draper. Stylish show set in a New York advertising agency in the early 60’s Watch it!

EntourageLoosely based on Marky Marks life. This show is about as deep as dish water but great fun. Basically a bunch of friends leech of a guy that got rich and famous in Hollywood. Lots of fast cars and boobs. Kinda like if nuts magazine made a TV show.

Boardwalk Empire
Probably the most like Sopranos or the wire in style and feel. Slow burner but blooming good. Set in the prohibition era in Atlantic city. Steve Buschemi is the man in this!!

Californication
David Duchovny is a writer in LA that hates his job and bangs a lot of women. Seems whatever the good intentions are, he somehow makes a bigger mess of his life. Bloody funny easy watch. Highly recommend.

Gossip Girl
My Guilty secret, I just wish I was Chuck Bass. Iw won’t tell you what its about because you will judge me and not watch it.

Heroes
This show got cancelled which is a shame. Normal people discover they have super powers. That’s pretty much the scoop Hah!

Game of thrones
Based on a great set of books, it’s basically LOTR’s with tits and more gore. Can’t wait for the second season!!!

Hung
I enjoyed this and sad it got cancelled. Basically a high school teacher with a massive nob becomes a gigolo. In a nutshell.

Summer Heights High
Chris Lilley’s best. Start with this series before watching his others. Mocumentary where he plays four different characters in an Australian high school. Flipping hilarious!

Eastbound & Down
Season 3 starts next week and I can’t wait! Its about a baseball players fall from grace starring Danny McBride. Its just so so funny!

Bored to Death
Jason Schwartzman is a struggling writer, decides to lead a sort of double life by pretending to be a private detective, Really funny stuff also starring Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson
How To make it in America
Really cool show that basically feels like an advert for Superme. A couple of dudes try  to succeed in New York City's fashion scene. I loved this show. Again sadly cancelled after two series.

So there is a pretty big list for you to get cracking on with! I am sure I missed loads out. I did start Greys Anatomy and Six Feet under but got bored and gave up. No point in me suggesting those now is there.

Enjoi!

Probs Dyrdek, Props!

Pretty much finished my skateboard wall now. I say pretty much as I don't think Dani will let me put any more up. Essentially I have been buying as many of my old decks as possible, and screwing them to the wall. There we're some I couldn’t find, so I filled the gaps with other decks I liked.  This makes me feel a) cool b) young again & c) like I am that rich that I have money to waste on buying skateboards to hang rather than buy food. Got a long way to go before Rob Dyrdek will give me props though. Still the man is considerably richer than me, and a very famous skateboarder so i won't beat myself up. Can you guess which one my room is?

Zee past few months......

A whole new level of slackness! I was pretty good and keeping this blog updated for a few months and then it all went to pot! Even if this is just to serve as photo diary to myself, I will pick up where I left off and skim through the past few months as I took some great pics, and had a lotta fun!! My buddy Bobby has started a great blog here http://whatlarkspop.wordpress.com/ which has inspired me to pick up where I left off. Follow his exploits as he prepares for fatherhood and change.

Anyhow. Last time I posted I think I had just come back from California with work. Needless to say I did a lot more travelling with work in the remainder of 2011 but posting pics from the inside of meeting rooms is pretty lame and boring.

I did however take the Mrs away on a surprise trip to Reykjavik for our two year anniversary. Really fell in love with Iceland and can’t wait to get back!

In the lead up to Xmas i went to some great parties, played a lot of golf, shot some pics for the Denim, hosted another kick ass Halloween party, and played our first show with Has Left The Building. I also brought Danielle a little kitten called Lykke who completes our weird little family. I am seriously outnumbered now as I now live with 3 girls, but at least everything smells nice (apart from the cats litter tray that is) will try get better at updating as 2012 progresses but here are the past 4 months captured in a few pics below. As always you can find many more pictures over here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lofski/sets

August Blog.

Slackness personified, been too busy to keep up to date so I best rattle through the last month. Practice has been going super well with the band, nearly 3 songs penned now! Still aiming for an Xmas show but will keep you posted on that one. I took a few snaps of the 4 of us in the studio a few weeks back.
Last week I was in California with work which was pretty good fun considering it was a work trip. Didn’t get too much down time but still managed to get a few good pics when I had the chance. Got to see Becks play at Home Depot Centre which was a laugh. Americans really should stick to their own sports though and give “soccer” a miss though! Shockingly bad quality but still fun to watch. think Doncaster Rovers v's Carlisle Utd, thats more the standard.
Lastly it was Junior’s “stick it on” birthday this weekend, Wicked night and got some quality snaps of the gang.  Until next time!
